On March 19, 2008, it was announced on the show, American Idol, that Neil Diamond would be a guest mentor for other competitors who would be Idol Diamond singing songs shows to be aired on April 29 and 30 in 2008.

On 8 April 2008, Diamond made a surprise announcement on a big screen broadcast at Fenway Park (home of world champion Boston Red Sox), it would be contained therein “Live in Concert” on August 23, 2008 in the part of his world tour. The announcement, which marked the first official confirmation of any 2008 concert dates to the USA, came during the traditional eighth round sing-along his “Sweet Caroline”, which became an anthem for Boston fans .

On 28 April 2008, Diamond appeared on the roof of the building Jimmy Kimmel to sing Sweet Caroline after Kimmel was arrested after jokingly tried to sing the song.

On 30 April 2008, Diamond appeared on American Idol, singing his song Pretty Amazing Grace on his new album Home before dark.
